III. Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board
- JMC Teaching Centre
The JMC Teaching Centre of the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board
{NCWEB}was set up in the academic year 1978-79 with Ms. Parvesh Malhotra as
the first teacher incharge.
The non-collegiate stream has the same syllabus and examination structure
as the regular college courses. It offers B.A. (Pass) and B.Com (Pass), both
in the English & Hindi medium. In the case of B.A. (Pass), two
combination of elective subjects are offered viz, History - Political
Science and History - Economics. In the case of B.com (Pass) only one option
is offered in the II year of the course.
Non-collegiate women's education was conceived of as a parallel system of
education, using existing institutional facilities and buildings. It
provides opportunities to women or girls, who for some reason, personal,
academic, professional or financial, cannot join a regular college.
Every centre that JMC includes tries to create conditions similar to that
of the regular college and encourages students to participate in
extra-curricular activities.
Non-collegiate classes are held on Saturdays. Classes are also held during
the October and December vacations.
II. IGNOU (INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN
UNIVERSITY) Courses
JMC IGNOU Centre was established in the year 1989 with just two courses and
500 students. Since then several new courses have been introduced every year
and the number of students has increased to 2000.
The teaching faculty is from various specialized fields of education. In
keeping with the spirit of the teaching methodology of distance education,
JMC holds regular teaching counselling sessions.
The Open University is an innovative and novel experiment in the Indian
education system. For pursuing any course there is no age bar. Through
counselling in the JMC center, students from all walks of life come together
and therefore do not miss out on a normal college education. At the same
time they are able to study according to their own convenience and at their
own pace. In JMC the students experience a deep sense of belonging. Various
cultural programmes like dramatics and talent contests are organized, which
give the students an opportunity for creativity apart from academics.
