The
aim of Jesus & Mary College is to make God known and loved in all social
milieu with the preference that St. Claudine Thevenet had for the young, and
among these for the poor. The college offers an integrated and all round education-intellectual,cultural,sociaL,emotional,physical,aesthetic,moral and spiritual.,
Our vision is to achieve excellence in our academic programmes and
inculcate in the students skills & values which enable them to succeed
professionally and personally.
The Jesus & Mary College is a community of learners in which all its
members, i.e. students and staff (academic, administrative and maintenance)
participate. It interacts for mutual benefit with its social milieu, i.e.
parents, university and government agencies and other private, social,
cultural and educational bodies.
JMC is committed to making every effort to give its students and staff the
best possible opportunity for academic proficiency and growth. The efforts
are to inspire the students to grow into mature women, with a strong sense
of family, social and national responsibility through all its projects and
programmes.
JMC believes in continuing the tradition of working for justice, peace and
empowering women and the poor. JMC believes in nurturing its students and
providing opportunities to the less privileged. We at JMC encourage the
spirit of service & participation. We believe that together we can work
towards a change in society emphasizing the role that young women can play.

Achievements
and Accomplishments
From a student strength of 117 in 1968, there are 2400 regular students,
1200 non-collegiate students and 2000 IGNOU students on roll today. JMC is a
centre for the Non Collegiate Women's Education Board and also the Indira
Gandhi National Open University. JMC also conducts out-reach programs for
less privileged children of the neighbourhood under the NSS and the Jesus &
Mary Children's Education Programme.
Our long awaited dream for an auditorium has almost come true when we laid
the foundation stone for it on 19th March, 2002. Now it is in our hands to
make it a reality. The Institution looks forward to each of its members to
come forward and join hands in this proud venture of constructing the hall
as early as possible. Generations ahead will benefit from this auditorium
and bless all those who contributed with their hard work and goodwill.
JMC
students have made their mark in various fields; be it academics, sports or
other extra-curricular activities. Ex JMC-ites have excelled in journalism,
law, the bureaucracy and the corporate world, apart from having made a foray
in various other fields.
JMC has high standards of excellence in sports. We have consistently won
vice chancellor trophy for the best college since the last four years. Our
students have been a part of National Cricket Team and have participated in
Shooting & Skating at the international level. They have also
participated in Badminton & Swimming at the national level.
In Academics, our results speak for the merit of the institution. We
consistently have rank holders and Gold Medalists in many disciplines. Our
students are rank holders attaining the first five positions in the
university.
JMC is reputed for its dramatics talent and has a name for its theatrical
productions. Some of the plays staged were Pygmalion, Miracle Worker, Blood
Wedding, The House of Bernarda Alba, Anna-Karenina, Heidi Holland and All
That Jazz, Dasavatar, A Small Family Business & Jasma Odan.
We have consistently fared well in inter college festivals and in various
competitive events.
